Reflection Ritual for Samhain

Samhain: A Season of Remembrance, Release & Ritual

The Trinity Moon Journal • Rooted in Intention

As October draws to a close, the evenings deepen, fallen leaves gather, and the season invites us inward. This is the atmosphere of Samhain—a time to remember, reflect, and consider what we wish to carry into the darker months.

At Trinity Moon Co., we approach this seasonal turning with intention: honoring our roots, making room for change, and finding a little magic in everyday rituals.

What Is Samhain?

Samhain has roots in Gaelic seasonal tradition. In Ireland, November 1 marked the beginning of winter, with celebrations taking place the evening before, October 31. Customs included feasting, games, divination, and beliefs that the spirits of the dead might return to the family home. (source.museum.ie)

Today, your observance can be personal and simple—a quiet evening, a treasured photograph, a journal, or a few moments spent remembering someone you love.

What the Season Invites Us to Explore

Remembrance. Honor loved ones, ancestors, and the people whose care and wisdom helped shape you.

Release. Consider the habits, expectations, or unfinished chapters you are ready to set down.

Transformation. Let the changing landscape remind you that endings can make space for something new.

Rest. Give yourself permission to slow down. You do not have to bloom in every season.

Create Your Samhain Space

Begin with a small corner of your home. Choose objects that hold meaning rather than worrying about creating a perfect altar.

You might include:

  • A photograph, handwritten recipe, or family keepsake.
  • An apple, a small pumpkin, or fallen leaves.
  • A candle or battery-operated lantern.
  • A journal and your favorite Trinity Moon ritual oil.
  • A crystal you personally associate with grounding or reflection.

Black, amber, burgundy, and cream can create a beautiful seasonal palette. Let these details support your intention; there is no required shopping list for a meaningful ritual.

A Trinity Moon Ritual for Remembrance & Release

Set aside ten quiet minutes on October 31, November 1, or an evening that feels right to you.

1. Arrive in the moment.
Soften the lights, settle into your space, and take three comfortable breaths. Let the day become quiet around you.

2. Root yourself in intention.
Bring your Trinity Moon Samhain oil into your ritual. If applying it, follow its label directions. Pause and say:

“I honor my roots. I welcome clarity. I make room for what comes next.”

3. Remember with love.
Look at your photograph or keepsake. Speak a name, recall a story, or write down a lesson you want to carry forward. You can also honor a beloved animal, a friend, or someone who made you feel at home.

4. Name what you are releasing.
On a small piece of paper, finish this sentence:

“As this season turns, I am ready to release…”

Be honest and gentle with yourself. Fold the paper, then tear it into pieces and discard it as a symbolic act of letting go.

5. Choose what stays.
In your journal, write one thing you want to nurture through the coming months: a relationship, a creative practice, a boundary, or more time for rest.

6. Close with gratitude.
Place your hands over your heart and read the affirmation below. If you lit a candle, extinguish it before leaving your space.

Your Samhain Affirmation

I am rooted in love and guided by intention.
I honor the stories that shaped me.
I release what I am ready to leave behind.
I welcome the next chapter with a steady heart.

Journal Prompts for the Darker Months

  • What has this year taught me?
  • Which memories make me feel connected to my roots?
  • What am I carrying out of habit?
  • What would giving myself more rest look like?
  • What small intention will I tend through winter?

Carry the Intention Forward

Your ritual does not have to end when the candle goes out. Make a family recipe. Share a favorite memory. Take a quiet walk among the changing leaves. Follow through on one small promise you made to yourself.

Our Samhain ritual oil offers a fragrant companion for these moments—a way to make your seasonal pause feel personal and intentional.

However you mark the season, may you find warmth in remembrance and room for what comes next.
